In A Day With... Alessandra Kirn

Firstly, are you able to tell us a little about you; where is your hometown, where are you living at the moment and what you do ?

I could write an essay on this! But I’ll give you the abbreviated version…My mother is Cuban, Father is Polish. I was born in Miami but we moved a lot growing up. When I was 2 we moved to Buenos Aires, Argentina; we lived there for 4 years before moving to Milan for 5 years. Later I attended boarding school in Switzerland where I spent 7 years. I went to Parsons in NYC for university but all the time Ibiza was the one place our family could come back to in the summertime and call home. For the past 4 years I have called Miami home.

Currently, I am new mother of 10 month- old baby boy and I am about to launch my online store (find it @kirn and here).

I know that you spend a lot of time in the Mediterranean, what do you love about it there ?

The Mediterranean what can I say... I cherish everything about it. Diet, nature, culture, aesthetic.

My time in the Mediterranean is sacred. I feel it’s where I most come alive.

How do you usually start your day ?

Our mornings are busy and punctual. Currently it starts with breastfeeding my baby around 6 am. Then I make our daily family green juice. Followed by my Cuban coffee (I can’t survive with out it). I alkalise with green juice to be able to have it- Haha.  I make the babies breakfast too. Then we are usually out the door by 7.30 for our morning walks. Our walks are my favourite part of the morning.

What does your dream day look like for you ?

Dream days involve, movement - either yoga or pilates. Some nature. Usually swimming in the sea. Time outdoors breathing in fresh air. I guess that lockdown has really made appreciate fresh air.

What is your beauty routine ? Do you have any favourite natural products or skincare rituals ?

I’m very minimal but quite strict about my routine… Baths with salts every night. I wash my face with a cleanser twice a day and I use rose water from Mario Badescu before applying La Miuex moisturizer in the AM and I use Vitners Daughter Botanical Serum (I’m obsessed with it) with my De la Heart Gua Shua at night. I love body oils and I like coconut oil here for the tropics and almond oil in the Mediterranean. I use my De La Heart lymphatic body tool at the night after my bath.

Do you have a favourite scent ?

Usually they can’t be bottled…Scent of my baby, my house in Ibiza, Swiss Alps.

Do you have any food or health philosophies that guide how you eat ?

I really believe in balance. I have gone through the ALL the phases. I guess thats how we learn about our bodies.

I consider myself to be rather intuitive, so I observe what I feel my body needs. If I want to eat pizza once a week or whatever I allow it. I am not crazy about no bread ,no gluten etc. I grew up in Europe bread is not the enemy. However, the quality of bread here in the USA is terrible. So I try not to eat bread here.

I do have warm water and lemon everyday before anything and green juice. I don’t eat meat either. But we eat fish at home. I try to alkalize my body with my food.

What does a typical day look like for you in terms of food/beverages throughout the day ?

Warm water and lemon. Green juice, coffee with my homemade oat milk (just bought this new toy Almond Cow). Usually I have avocado toast, with an egg and feta cheese for breakfast on pumpernickel bread. Almonds for snacks.

Lunch is usually veggie curry with rice or steamed salmon or fish with rice. Lots of lentil soups.

I don’t actually eat dinner. Just maybe a oatmeal with honey or maybe a protein smoothie (vegan protein)
